Ashot Harutunyan

Ashot Harutunyan was born in Yerevan in 1971. He studied art at the P. Terlemezian College of Arts. From 1992 through 1998 he studied fine arts at the Yerevan State Academy of Fine Arts. From 1990-1991 Harutunyan taught art in the village of Ardvy. From 1998-1999 he served in the Armenian armed forces. Harutunyan has participated in numerous art exhibitions and in an award winner of the “Garoun-97” Art Festival.

Ahot draws great inspiration from nature and from his retreats to his paternal village of Odzun, Armenia. Harutunyan paints mainly using acrylic paints where he molds the industrial aspect of the paint with that of the serenity of nature with the resulting images symbolizing a daily routine devoid of any conflict or borders between industry and nature. Harutunyan often captures and transforms into artistic poetry textual writings left on the walls of ancient and scared places encapsulating and embracing the dreams of hope embodied within such works. Although influenced by the likes of Klee, Chagall, Matissee, Gorky and other modern and Impressionist greats, Harutunyan’s works reflect a juxtaposition of the visions of the preceding century with that of a contemporary man.
